Linda's built!

Post by Merddin Emrys » Sat Dec 26, 2009 6:22 pm

Roundhouse have now built my engine, it's an Ffr Linda with tender and radio control. I've paid for it now to beat the vat increase on 1st Jan   She will arrive sometime in January so I suppose I should start on a track for her to run on! Until then she will sit safe in a cabinet

VAT is going back up to 17.5% (I think?) on Jan 1st. It had gone down to 15%.

All Roundhouse prices go up from 1st January too, in addition to the VAT increase. In red...

It's £35 cheaper now, although the Roundhouse website says 'a price rise in January' I assume thats just down to the vat?

Ah well, I ordered mine in November or something, so it looks like I won't be affected by Roundhouse's 'new prices'.

That is correct. On behalf of a customer, I ordered a Taliesin for delivery next summer and RH confirmed that it would be at the 2009 price (excl. VAT) when delivered.

Linda has arrived

Post by Merddin Emrys » Wed Jan 20, 2010 4:11 pm

Well after a long wait and following delays due to the weather Linda is now in residence :D A big box arrived and after careful unpacking out she came. She looks great and to my delight all of the black parts are in a really nice satin black :D I assumed it was going to be in gloss, so that's great! I've took a picture next to my exact scale 16mm Blanche and I'm very happy with both scales together to be honest, the scale bugbox looks ok with Linda too! All I have to do now is built a track to run her on!

I've got the nameplates on now (don't tell anyone but I noticed that the supplied Hunslet works plates are for 589 which is Blanche  ) I've put them on with double sided tape (could'nt think of anything better!) I was expecting the etched plates to be too big (having seen other pictures) but these look spot on to me. The working lamp is a work of art, I did'nt know it worked until I fiddled with it  I must get some track down on the decking and steam her sometime!

We want to see it in steam too, I've got a box of Peco sm32 track but have'nt got the rail joiners yet. I might call in at the model railway shop at Betws Y Coed over the weekend to see if they have some, then we can put some track down on the decking and test her :D 8)

That's a very long regulator arm

I think the best way of sticking nameplates on is silicon... eg. bathroom sealant or something would work, it won't damage the paintwork as it will just peel off. I didn't know that until I'd stuck all mine on... with... erm... a small spot of superglue :?

Don't use bathroom silicone, one of the guys at Amberley decided to stick notices on our static locos with it and when we went to take them off to update them the sealant stayed put and it took us forever to scrape it off. Which in turn damaged the paint.
