They may be tiny, but I know Polar Bear has a lot of power hidden away. Must be the high boiler pressure teamed with the small cylinders and wheels!Endless, Nameless wrote:Sea Lion & Polar Bear are tiny!
Can't see RH ever doing one, they'd be too small to be easy to run. Finescale locos go well, but do need a lot of attention while running.
It makes her easier to work on too, just recently I've been profiling a bit of 'plate to replace the very rotten one in the bottom of her smokebox.
[plug]Polar Bear's ten year ticket runs out at the end of next year, she'll need a full retube and maybe a new firebox. All donations gratefully received![/plug]

Pretty much all Bagnall's have marine fireboxes AFAIK, great strength being a tube within a tube.Endless, Nameless wrote:The real things are ace little locos- marine fireboxes I believe? I just don't think they'd be ideal in 16mm as they'd be smaller than a Mamod- not ideal for Roundhouse's internal gas firing!
There was an article in SMT last year about scratch building a PB/SL loco in 16mm. It did end up being tiny, and smaller than a Mamod. Can't win 'em all!

Iv just been to pick up my Jack from Roundhouse, the super heater had been knocked over the burner sometime during transit and had to be sent back.
what a friendly lot! As an apology for the engines damage I was given a private tour of their workshops (please don't read this then go down to RH expecting a tour, they wont like me if you do.
mine was only due to special circumstances )
since seeing the workshops I can really appreciate the hard work that goes into building each model, so many people and machines working to create these little pieces of artwork. I saw a Lady Anne being test steamed on a loop and there was a massive rack covered in loco chassis being run on air to run them in and never have I seen so many RH Jacks in 1 place!
I also got a gander at a few prototype pieces
but am sworn to secrecy (so ha ha!)

A steam propelled life-style.
