Modifying 'Isabelle' my Accucraft 'Edrig'

Post by SillyBilly » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:30 pm

Hello,
In this topic I'm going to give details as I go along modifying my Accucraft 'Edrig' named 'Isabelle' to suit the needs of the Seibiant Hill Railway, as a slow pace project so that I can watch the loco grow.
I've posted this list of proposed modification before but shall post again for refrence, as I go along the purchased/made/added modifications will turn red.

Red Rods and Cranks
Lamp bracket on the smokebox
and rear cabsheet
Glazed spectacle plates
Roscoe Lubricators
Matt Black Smoke Box
Cosmetic draincocks, as described in 'Tag Goton's Live Steam Workshop'
New Regualtor and gas valve handle
Coal bunker on tank (scratch built)
Black Buffer Beam rears
New painted Boiler Bands
Black boiler in cab, with a brass band around the backhead
Cab sheet interior transfer
'Isabelle' nameplates
'Acuucraft UK Ltd.' worksplates (spelling mistake my fault)
Large handrail across the front of the running plate
Injector water valves situated on the ends of the tanks
Paint the dome cover

Saftey valve bonnet
Chuff Pipe
Put a top on the whistle
Top Up valve
Red inside frames

I am taking such options as making a wooden 'drop-on' cab, in to consideration. I'd love a resenator whistle, but not at £80.

When I get the first few on the loco I shall post some pictures.

A chuff pipe slightly blocks of the exhaust making the engine chuff louder ;)

The chuff pipe I believe also controls the exhaust back pressure making for smoother running.

It is one of the mods that people put on Mamod/MSS locos to try and get some nice slow running, but I've not felt the need to try it out yet - it is easiest to use in the SL2/SL3 with the balloon chimney stack.

There is on for Accucraft locos on John's website:
www.tumblydowncottage.dk/html/body_the_ ... fpipe.html

They are somtimes reffered to as chimney regulators for mamods (?) and there are details available on the 16mm E-Group.

Great William, my Caradoc and your edrig will be having mods done at the same time. When the chuff pipe i ordered arrives, I will strip caradoc down and do some of the mods you say your going to do.
Be intresting to compare the two when their done!

I still dont have my Edrig, but will be anyday soon. I'll be adding many of the mods listed there, I already purchased the chuff pipe and a set of Spex.

All you have to do with the chuff pipe is unscrew the existing exhuast and screw the new one in. And the spec glasses just push fit in.

Well the parts aren't what I expected :( !

They're way better than that :) , I think I've fallen in love with the regulator handle  ! Thank Yooooou Mr Sparkes!

Image
Parts prior to fitting, it's lucky an allen key was suplied as I don't have many small ones!

Image
Chuff pipes compared, nedd I say which it is?

Image
The improved cab layout showing a very handsome regulator handle, spectacle glasses & re-positioned pressure gauge.

This has left me with a spare black knod and as they have a brass centre I plan to remove the plastic and have a go at making my 'handbrake' in an attempt to have £10 :) !
