5" gauge Scamp

Overhaul is finished:

The dealer stated that all secondhand locos go through their workshop for inspection.
In fact the loco came to me with the boiler half full of water and the remains of the last fire still in it.
I have no idea of the scope of their inspection but this was my job list after the first inspection:

Job list:
- fixed broken blower pipe
- valve gear needed adjustment
- water gauges were clogged
- blowdown was clogged
- flushed the boiler with citric acid, TWICE!
- Made missing lamp irons
- touched up the paint
- got nameplates
- fitted a steam feed pump
- axle pump clack did not have a ball in it !!!!
- hand pump clack was screwed in by only one turn
- several more little jobs

Some things on that list make me wonder how they could have been missed during an inspection.
Opening the bypass valve at standstill caused the filler flap of the left hand side tank to flip open and a huge cloud of steam to escape due to the missing ball from the clack valve.

I got the loco for a good price so I will not complain.

She runs well now, has a nice loud bark when under load and seems to be more powerful than the bigger Maxitrak swallow.

A rather nice looking loco behind the big brass bits. They look a later addition; A Westinghouse pump ? why ? and could they have not hidden the lubricator more elegantly ?

A fine loco to care for and possibly refine.
