HIMAG petrol loco drawing

Post by Allu » Fri Jun 26, 2026 12:37 pm

Made a drawing of an interesting prototype, danish Himag HMK petrol loco. Only 3 of this type were ever made.

Ooh, that looks interesting, are you going to build one?

That's interesting. Have any survived? I tried finding a photo but nothing turned up.

I have been thinking about building one, maybe from brass, it would be nice and heavy and a lot of rivets! At the moment I have to postpone though as other projects waiting me to finish. There is not a lot of info online, it is hard to find as the series was so small and they were all made in the 30ies, all are 600 mm gauge. 1 of the 3 is in Finland, waiting restauration at a preservation/museum narrow gauge railway. Two others are to my knowledge still in Denmark, one of them has been restored beautifully, I attach here some photos and an old company brochure.

Always a pleasure to see a good restoration of a rare machine, and running no less.

The fact it runs a Ford "BB" engine is interesting, being it's a near-identical successor to my Model "A" engine, with most of the few differences being internal.

It's a very tidy loco drawing too. :salute:

Looks remarkably similar to my Gmeinder, but smaller and open cabbed.
