Well old ratty (dad he he  ) went off to halfords today and came back with a spray can of matt black, so I got the smokebox sprayed this afternoon. Whilst still not perfect it looks pretty good. Meanwhile I've crossed off quite a few of the small paint jobs like the tank fillers and rear lamp brackets. The lineing might be started tommorow...

Started the lineing today, and begain with the bunker
Image
Here is the gear I use for lineing, including a scapel, tamiya low tack masking tape, scissors, tamiya paint, pencil and brushes of 2 sizes.
Image
The bunker lined, but waiting for removal of the masking tape. I will also add a line of trimline after completion of the black line.
Image
The side tank masked ready for lining. I also masked the back of the cab, this will be painted with the tank. The beauty of the Tamiya paint is that it is recoatable within an hour and is also water soluble, but very weather proof when dry.

My apologies ratty, thanks for editing my post. I was typing rather quickly and not paying full attention! It is however a little unfortunate that Urien happens to be an anagrame of what I accidentally typed. Regardless of that, it is a nice wee loco!!!

No, i'm afraid you have made so many threats to my engines safety that Urien is not visiting the PTLR again. And uncle keith has requested that I do not take Taliesin to PTLRfest now, so i'm afraid i'm now only bringing my silly little big big hymek bogie conversion.. :|
Back to Urien, anyway, and the lining is coming on quite nicely

Image
I'm still not decided on the layout for the lining on the cab, though the backsheet has been lined to allow for running without the bunker

Image
Just to show that I did finally get the smokebox painted, it is attached to its mounting plate ready to be put back on the chassis

Nice work on the lining. Let's hope you won't have to re-do it too many times.

Not bad! She's guna look fantastic! I'm considering doing my Edrig properly, although in the Model Engineer 16mm special mag thingy, someone used plastikard templates on his Caradoc which seemed a great idea, so both sides are even. He put the inverted curved bits on the corners of the template by using a paper hole punch to cut a disk, then quarter it and glue in position.

I have heared of this method of lining, using a pen for the lines. I'm not too good with plasticard and plastic weld, I'll stick to my masking tape and paint I think. There is still a trimline line to go over the join. Staw would look best, but they dont do that, so I think its going to be red or yellow.

No i'm afraid my uncle is deadly serious. Cecil threatened my engine

oh hang on? what did you say? The headboards for the double headed single fairlie train have been printed? Oh right, i'd better take it then... ;)
Anyway, the black edging on Urien is now complete

The lining allows the engine to run with or without bunker, and looks quite neat, although as i'm not lightline you can tell where lines don't match up if you are close up
Anyhow, I can start reassembling the engine soon, and it will hopefully be steamable in a week or 2
