Almost exactly a year ago while visiting the Great Central Railway I bought a resin money box of Ivor the engine, sometime later I fitted a chassis and filled the money slot of the model. I might have done a thread on doing the conversion.
In two weeks time we take our model railway to the GCR where it will be erected on Loughborough station platform. Though we mostly run steam model locomotives we get more reaction from children if we run models of engines they either see on television or read about. They are many children's toys that can be converted but mostly they are locomotives not rolling stock and it always looks better if the model is pulling something. So I decided to make some rolling stock of the M&L R T Co Ltd, having looked at some episodes of Ivor on YouTube I decided on an open wagon of which there seemed to be two. A picture of Ivor and the wagons was used to get relative proportions, in this case the height of the wagon relative to Ivor's bunker.
The sizes gained were then applied to a larger more detailed photograph.
With the larger number of dimensions obtained two wagon chassis's were made from wood.
Wooden sides were fitted and the model painted.
The couplings wheels and axle boxes are Binnie's and the buffers Mamod. I know need to source a couple of elephants as these seem so be one of the loads carried.
