Accucraft Profile Coaches

Hi Folks,

So I've just bought my first live steam locomotive and I'm looking for some rolling stock that I'm happy to run with it.

I'm ideally looking for 3 or 4 compartment bogie coaches, but can't find anything that doesn't look ridiculously short against an Accucraft loco. I did want the Accucraft W&LLR coaches, but after see two go for over £300 each on eBay, I think that's priced me out the 2nd hand market for those!

I've considered the IP Engineering L&B "Inspired" coaches (http://ipengineering.co.uk/page164.html) but not 100% convinced on them yet. Although if I could convert one into an observation/brake (like L&BR No. 17) I'd be slightly more tempted.

Any suggestions?

the IP Eng Live Steam Beginners coaches are a good match or there's the Cheapo LGB knock offs that also look alright behind them

I must admit that I've been very tempted by the cheap LGB knock-offs, would need tinkering with though. What would be the best way to re-gauge them to 32mm, new wheels or complete new bogies?

There was a "How To" in a recent Garden Rail Mag showing how to make them more 32mm friendly

Ah, would seem issue 244 is too new to be available as a back issue, but now new enough to be able to buy still...how frustrating!

Have a click on my 'www', I've 2 ACCUCRAFT locos and a rake of 4 wheel coaches built from IP Engineering kits. The link includes a photo of my Lawley with the train showing the matching profile. I've seen the same stock both built as per, but fitted with bogies and also rebuilt using 3 kits to form 2 bogie coaches, both looked very nice.

Swift Sixteen's carriages are built to Roundhouse and Accucraft scale. They are almost exactly the height and width of a Lady Anne. The Owain body kit is built to Accucraft scale and is very close to the height and width of the carriages (ever so slightly bigger).

Have considered Swift Sixteen in the longer term, but have picked up two of the cheap and cheerful Newqida coaches to play with. Need to re-gauge them to 32mm though, can anyone recommend somewhere to get 8 32mm accucraft long axle wheels?

They're not the sort with a plastic sleeve (attached to the wheels) over an inner steel axle are they? If so you might be able to cut out 13mm or so out of the middle, then chop that bit in half and rearrange the whole lot so the wheels are 32mm apart with spacers at each end. I did that with some Bachmann wheels recently, have yet to test them much, but they seem to work. Did it with
Playmobil carriages years ago too, they would have run fine if it weren't for the deep flanges bouncing along the chairs...

They look great! Not convinced mine would look so good though.

Waiting for my cheapy cheaps to arrive, then will have a look at the bogies. Really tempted to just put the long axel Accucraft wheels in, to prevent having to hack the bogies apart.

GRS and Brandbright both do longer axel wheel sets specifically for re-gauging LGB/Bachmann Stock.
