laalratty wrote:Now that is too far, she challenged you to raise the money, you've got it but now shes found some other reason to stop you, seems to me she is deliberatly trying to stop you, I say go ahead and buy it, after all if you have managed to raise the money for a Lady Anne this quickly, there shouldn't be a problem getting enough for college. There comes a time where you cannot do everything your parents say, would you still listen to them if they told you to beat yourself with a cane everyday?
completley agree a mate of mine wanted to go to the pub (hes 18 ) with me and a mate and his parents hid his passport (ID) which is his legal document and he completely hit the roof when he couldnt find it .

they had no right to take away his legal identification    ruined the night for everyone  :|

just like your parents have no right to stop you buying this engine!

Can't you use the argument that it may be a lot of money but that these things will keep their value as they are collectable. Also you'll be learning a lot from owning and operating such a nice piece of model engineering.

A live steam model isn't just for christmas it's a part of a very rewarding hobby that you will enjoy for years to come.

Worth a try??

Perhaps your parents are worried that if you buy the loco you'll start wearing cardigans with burn holes and oil stains on, joining up a model engineering society, and smoking roll up cigarettes... :P

As Tag Gorton keeps pointing out in one of his books, a steam loco does not get rusty and decrease in value rapidly.

They do keep their value remarkably well don't they. Blinking annoying when you want to get a cheap second hand bargain!

They get rusty and increase in value very slowly!

Quick question.  How old do you have to be before you can have uninfluenced control over your finances?
Do you really mean college? because i go college and it costs me nearly bu99er all in money (expcept for dinners which parents pay for anyway!) so unless you want/need to go on trips i wouldn't say you need to spend it on that at all.

Well first of all, I already had the money to buy a lady ann. It's just that my mum wanted to keep that 900 or so pounds for a car (but after seeing how my my brother's paid just so he can get a drivers licence, and buy a crappy little Fiat, i don't want to, but she thinks I do), s I'm trying to make about 1300 pounds to buy;

A Lady Ann.
Track.
construction materials
Rolling stock.

To do this, I've got 3 paper rounds a week, every day. I've made about 200 pounds so far, but I was asking when i should start placing orders. I didn't say I'd got the money.

:? How come shes allowed you to have like 3 Mamods (she said why do you need another loco, they are all the same [or something along those lines wasnt it] and Mamods are all the same anyway...) so has she got something against Roundhouse or something?

At 16, your legally allowed to have s*x, leave home, leave school, ride a scooter, drive a tractor etc etc, so what stops you from buying a Roundhouse Lady Ann, its not agaist the law, so why does she not want you to do it, as I said, its not illegal to do so.

hmmm, im sure it is still possible to be respectful without having your life controlled, and get yourself that Lady Anne, and if you are that religious im afraid you are going to have to stop liking Doctor Who (I belive it was banned by one christian group for being anti-christian and anti god)

Actully, some churches are being encouraged to use dr who in their services to encourage younger people to come.

laalratty wrote:Right:
Point 1. You can only have them in the colour Roundhouse paints 'em, so you can't have indian red however they do have a tan colour which is quite similar to Midge's Lady anne, and you have 3 choices of green and a black
http://www.roundhouse-eng.com/ click on models to see colours available
Point 2. The Roundhouse factory is not open on weekends, so you have to phone them on a weekday (and on a Friday before 2.00pm as they close early)
The people working at Roundhouse need the whole weekend off, after a hard work building loco's, so they can play with their own loco's in their garden railways at home!

er, silly billy, 1, the first 2 commandments are listed as one in the bible, 2, the last two are also listed as one in the bible, hence why their called the 10 commandments, and 3, I think you've just commited blasthemy by adding that last one on the end.

I'm sure there's something in the bible against adding things to the 10 commandments.

yeah, I guess.

About the other stuff, My parents banned my brother from playing warhammer, and they've never, ever, let any one of us even take a glance at a Harry Potter book, although over chritian parents let their kips read them.

They're okay about the video games and sci-fi films, as long as we can tell the difference between them and real life (which, quite frankly, isn't exactly difficult).

Im sure SillyBilly didn't mean to offend you or your religeon (mine infact, I'm a Christian, but not involved heavily in things!), so I wouldn't take it too seriously Matthew.
