Edrig/Ragleth Chassis - Most suitable Prototype

Post by Hope Mountain Railway » Thu Dec 18, 2014 11:19 pm

Has anyone out there identified a prototype that is very close in proportion to the Edrig/Ragleth Chassis. And would make the closest to a scale model, utilizing this chassis? Tank, or Tender Locomotive?

You have a vast choice of suitable prototypes. A hunslet, bagnall, Barclay, anything you like really. Many manufacturers offered locos with different options of valve gear, wheel size and spacing etc.
Try googling narrow gauge loco plans to find many suitable images to compare your chassis with.

What scale and gauge do you want? They are quite large for 16mm 2 foot gauge locos but quite good for 15mm scale 3 foot gauge or 7/8s 2 foot gauge, basically you will have a lot more choice if you use 45mm gauge.

Thanks for those replies - I do realise that there are a huge amount out there. What I was wondering was that if anyone had ALREADY chanced upon a prototype that was uncannily close, either 7/8ths or 16mm? Similar proportions, wheel sizes, spacing etc - or could be easily adapted?

You could still use it as a two foot gauge loco but one re gauged from 2 foot 6 etc. Another possible engine could be this which seems about the right size.

Thanks for that Matt, that's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. Nice square (easy to file) corners! ...... Would suit an axle pump too.
