Is it possible to buy a replacement boiler for a Jane loco?

Thanks

Replacement boiler also available from Dream Steam who now have them made by Cheddar Valley Steam (most of the IP Jane boilers were made by Cheddar Models).

What is wrong with the current boiler?

Hi Chris!

The engine was in store for about 10 years, and the boiler seems to have collapsed inwards around the safety valve. There's a very discernable 'dishing' round the valve. I'm hesitant to steam it in case there's a problem.

A very wise decision

I have a BL Enterprise that had this problem when I first acquired it - I suspect something had been dropped - or possibly piled -  on it catching the SV whilst it was in store prior to its sale to me. I'm afraid I bent a penny-washer to fit the curve of the boiler, inserted a 0BA bolt into the SV mount with the washer and a nut behind it, and gently screwed down the nut until the boiler and mounting were pulled true (a little free-hand wiggling of the bolt to straighten things up beforehand helped too). The brass of the boiler seemed remarkably soft - there's another ding on it I have yet to try to pull. I did stand well back when I first steamed it afterwards, but I believe the SV lifts at a mere 15psi or so.

The aesthetics may dictate a new boiler anyway if obtainable in your case (I didn't have that option), and it runs at higher pressure, but wouldn't passing an appropriate hydraulic pressure-test suffice to allow confident steaming after whatever repairs might be made?

I was also going to suggest a hydraulic test first.

Be worth contacting your local 16mm NGM group Brian to see if they have a boiler inspector with the appropriate test equipment (we have one in the West of Scotland group).
