Hello everyone.
Here is my latest (and only working) model. Cheese-06. Based on the vale of rheidol diesel locomotive, number 10. All 3d printed in ABS (with many thanks to Trevor for all the tips on how to print ABS)
I really tried this time to make a proper model, as all my previous locos have been designed for my son, Toby to push around, but after a few goes with driving other people's locos, I think he is now ready for battery power, albeit not remote control- I don't quite have the funds for that yet.
I used a lot of the design of a previous model I made of the Brecon mountain railways diesel, although this was very basic.
Cheese-06 has all sprung axles, roller bearings on the axles and rods and drives, brass bevel gears and Working chopper couplings. The couplings i downloaded from makerworld.
I used brass heat set inserts for all the threaded components, a new one for me but I'm very impressed with the results.
Power comes from 2 x 4AA battery boxes connected to a speed controller and 12v motor. The wheels I found in the shed, but I've since printed wheels in ABS and I've been happy with the results.
Im hoping to take this along to a 16mm meet up , so i can give it a run and iron out any problems. I still don't currently have a railway of my own.

Best wishes
NEIL.

Beautifully crisp printing. Maybe I should try ABS again - dire results last time I tried.

That is a remarkably good finish for 3D printing. Excellent job there, I'm sure Toby is delighted!

Wow this looks really nice indeed Neil, I'm looking forward to seeing it for real. Some very crisp detail. Did you print in multi-colour or are the spring details printed separately and glued on?

Trevor's tips and advice have massively improved my results with ABS but I still tend to default to PLA, I certainly haven't tried anything as ambitious as this in ABS.
