Just converted an Ixion / EFE / Bachmann Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST to battery RC. I think it's probably the most challenging conversion I've carried out so far.

Finding room for the three lipos was the easy bit.

Trying to figure out where to put the switch and the charge socket was really tricky.

The only way I could think of getting the wiring from the rear of the cab to the front was to use strips of brass shim under the floor.

I've used self adhesive copper tape in similar circumstances. It's thinner than your brass shim appears to be. Last time I did it was to run a full length negative bus inside the boiler/saddle tank which allowed me to link all the 'ground' connections at the nearest possible location and significantly reduce the spaghetti of black wires.

Good conversion! Rik, did you packaged the lipos yourself? Are they 3.7 volts each? Asking because i have some spare lipos around and was thinking using them connected together in some a future project which needs more power...

Philip has a good idea using the copper tape. I remember using that stuff many years ago when i was helping a friend building some homemade slotcar table, the copper tape conducted he electricity directly to the cars.

Nice looking loco Rik, the brass shim is a clever idea. Space permitting one could even use small copper tube to represent some of the piping steam locos have.
Grant.

Hi. Yes, 3.7v per cell. I wrapped them in clear heat shrink and connected them to a 3S BMS board.

Just a word of warning, only connect together lipo cells of the same capacity and type - preferably bought at the same time.

I was intending to use self adhesive copper tape (which we bought supposedly to deter slugs), but I couldn't find it. The remains of the reel has been in my box of metal offcuts for years but, Sod's Law prevailed.
