Re: Scratchbuilt live steam Garratts
I couldn't scratchbuild a coal wagon to any acceptable condition which leaves me almost without words after looking at this. I'm drawn to ask, 'how difficult is it to put a roof on a cab so brilliantly detailed as that?'

I haven't seen his work before Rik. BUT blooming heck, what a flipping, superb, fantastic looking engine. The detail in the cab is just something else isn't it. I am gobsmacked at just how fine it is. Those dials are so well made. The rest of the engine is just has beautiful also, don't you think.

Don't put yourself down Andy. I hadn't scratch built anything until I started my interest in model railways some 10 years ago now, starting with N Gauge. But I never made any rolling stock in that gauge, far too small for me. Now with 16mm, the first one I built was a open wagon I think it was, but even then I bought a chassis. Now though I have moved on to building them completely with my small 3d printer knowledge. It's just a confidence thing. I think a lot of us see how well some of the members builds are and we think I van never do anything like that. I got inspiration from Peter Butler and ge-rik and others, to at least try and build something myself. The positive comments I got from a lot of members just made me want to try to get better at it.
I don't profess, is that a correct word

That's a truly amazing model.
But... Having spent hours and hours making such a beautiful thing, has he honestly left it precariously balanced on a couple of lengths of pipe in what appears to be a goods yard?!!
