Got out early today to beat the sun and the heat, and actually ran a train. Apart from the mechanical loco dropping something in the gearbox (I think!) and becoming US everything went well. Trundling across the Warringine Valley bridge. A quick top-up with water at Nayook. Shunting completed and waiting on the Guards whistle. Leaving Nayook on the up, heading back to Leawarra.
Now to pull down the mech loco and see what's wrong.

The first picture looks like the sea is in the distance but I think it's just a painted fence panel.

I have to agree with Peter on all counts. Your railway always looks good, I always feel I'm looking at the real thing, but as we sit here shivering the sunshine floods out of the pictures and warms the cockles of my heart!

Thanks for the comments, would gladly swap some of our heat for a little of your cold at the moment.

The sea is actually in the other direction Tom, the "sea" in the pic. is the shade cloth over Leawarra to protect it from the blazing sun (something I don't imagine you need over there at the moment!)

Thanks every one for the kind comments, I more than likely said "Dam, got shade cloth in the shot" but after Tom's comment I can see where your all coming from. Shall have to plant one of my boats there next time to make it look right!

As the Thornycroft "accidentally" removed the log skids at Warringine, replacements were put in place
yesterday and the loggers were busy loading today. They've been arranged so the dozer can roll the logs onto the trucks instead of the manual way. Seems like Warringine can once again forward timber to Leawarra.

By the way can you help please. I know you are down under, but were can I get some decent scaled vehicles from, the ones I have found seem to be either to small or to large. I know they should be 1.19 scale is that correct.

If your using 16mm to the foot scale, yes 1/19th is correct. However I only know of two 1/19th scale diecast models (Chuck Foose hotrods) Mine are 1/18th scale diecast from Yatming and others. Much depends on the era if any that you are modelling. Plenty of modern diecast available on Ebay, fewer of British types unfortunately. I'd love to get my hands on the tiny BMW that was a licensed copy of the Austin 7 but they want too much for it at the moment.

I'm thinking of building a gantry to offload logs at my sawmill - something along these lines -

Rik, I don't want to hijack Grant's thread, but when I saw your sawmill in position earlier, I assumed that you would be building something exactly along these lines to off-load logs.

No problem Philip, this is where ideas develop.
Rik, a gantry would look really good, would that be inside the building or extending out from it?
I think it's interesting to research the process of breaking down logs into sawn timber, to get a feeling of the layout and the equipment required. Its made me realize I'm doing it wrongly, my wagons should be carrying sawn timber instead of logs.
I'm guessing your mills were a permanent affair, where as many small Australian mills were often set up in the bush, and only stayed operational till the timber ran out or became uneconomic to harvest.
I'm looking forward to your mills completion, I remember the alterations you made to get the timber sidings into your landscape some time ago, you were obviously thinking well ahead.
