Ah! you used ply for the base of the carrier and hence the need for the aluminium. When you showed me the pic. of the carrier earlier, I was thinking 3/4" timber would surely support the weight.

Using ply reinforced with aluminium angle keeps the weight down and the step is low enough that it doesn't need a ramp when rolling the loco off the carrier and on to the track.

Damn fine as always. And that carrier's a nice straightforward design.

That black etch wouldn't happen to be Wattyl "super etch" in a large 400g can, would it?

No, I've never used Wattyl etch primer. The black and grey etch primers I've been using on metal models for 40+yrs were an industrial type made by Mirotone, who went into liquidation last year.

Haven't worked up the enthusiasm to start the search for a replacement yet. :study:

Ah, yes I should've remembered your preference for the airbrush.
Finding suitable replacements for the right consumables is a miserable task, that I find myself doing more and more often with time.
When you can put off the search no longer, I wish you luck.

That looks like a marvellous engine. I simply couldn't accommodate that on my line nor, I think, on any of my friend's lines!
Many of us in the UK used to favour paint spray cans from Halfords, an automotive supply chain, but last year they completely changed the range (a different supplier, I think). It's made matching previous colours rather difficult!
