Use of train cassettes for storage.

I don't have the pleasure of a shed or similar when building my relatively small layout. An answer for my OO scale is the use of cassettes to add/remove engines and stock. Do people see this as practical and do this in G scale?

Yes, absolutely. Before our garage was constructed wherein I now have storage sidings, I used a form of cassette storage. Each siding had its own cassette so, at the end of a running session, I ran the stock from each siding into its designated cassette, which meant, at the start of the next session, I could reverse the process and continue the session from where I left off.

Cassettes might work with short lightweight trains, such as a small loco and a few 4 wheel wagons. Anything longer than a metre or so will be too unwieldy to handle in my opinion.

I store my rolling stock in stackable trays and store locos in cradles that locate in carry cases. The trays and cases are designed to be used for transport by car to other locations in Melbourne, as well as between the train room and track at home.

There's probably as many carry case designs as there are modellers. How complicated you want to go will depend on your carpentry skills and tools.

My observation at local steamups is that the majority of large scale modellers default to a stack of cardboard boxes for transport.......

Very impressive looking Rik. Think you should sell these as cut wood kits or made. Not having a jig saw I'd be interested.
