Scale, specifically G

Post by Nigel B » Sun Jun 15, 2025 4:57 pm

I'm driving myself mad! Is G scale as in LGB etc around 14mm to the foot? I don't trust my own maths:-

45/39x12 = 13.84

I think your calc is incorrect.
LGB is nominally 1:22.5, so 1mm on the model equals 22.5mm on the prototype. So your calc should be 305/22.5 = 13.55. ie a 500mm prototype dimension should be 500/13.55 = 36.9mm on the model

Having said that, you can put any scale of model on the LGB 45mm track, it comes back to the old scale vs gauge arguments when defining model railways.
i.e you can use 45mm track to represent any prototypical track gauge as long as you alter the model scale to suit.

Don't know if that helps or not?
