The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
Re: The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
Not tried from a desktop, probably just a mobile thing.
Not a big issue, just checking there wasn't something I should have clicked...

Re: The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
New video is great, a very relaxing way to spend a weekend!
Re: The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
Not just a better video, a great video, I am glad i don't have room for a 71/4" railway, otherwise i think i may be falling out with the domestic authorities.
Re: The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
+1 for that! I am not jealous at all
You've got great scope to come up with a lovely scenic run. If ever you come up to the Lakes/N. Lancashire, make contact with Mike Cave of Littledale Light Railway. I'm sure he would welcome a visit from a fellow 7 1/4"-er
He's got a group on Facebook and can be messaged via that.

Re: The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
Littledale has to be right up there as one of the best garden railways in the country. It's a beautiful line, and has a really strong sense of identity and scale through all of the stock and features (i particularly like how well "centurion" fits in with the two river class locos).
Would love to visit one day.
(Makes me wonder how many other private lines like this there are behind closed doors.....)
The late Bob Symes' Green Dene (works) railway is also highly inspirational:

Everything coming together there with the Wren and the railway now running, brilliant.
Re: The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
Domestic authorities.....depends on choice.
My wife shares the hobby. She can run any of my locos, even the little bavarian PtL 2/2 which requires some skill to fire.
So I have a 5" gauge layout in the garden and (just) enough space in the basement to store everything.

Re: The Gables Garden Railway (7 1/4")
My wife is very tolerant of my hobby. As well as the garden railway, she has also come along to visits of miniature railways on holiday (including a trip to cologne specially timed to align with a big indoor live steam event). She has been known to drive the battery locos occassionally when needed, but is too wary of live steam.
That's ok, we each have our own interests (the large grey building that the track runs behind is her pottery).
At least with all this the garden gets landscaped / maintained, and non-railway friends all enjoy a ride - even the mother in law was impressed!

Have you fitted R/C to the electric loco as it appears to start and stop without manual control?

Certainly beats hauling those lumps around by hand. Nice filming work as always.

No R/C - just me crouching just out of shot ready to grqb the controller handset as it approaches!
The blue o&k is so low geared (through a worm drive) that it can be left to trundle around the garden by itself. So far it has always come back to where it started....

Another short video - this time with some festive lighting
Running clockwise is more tricky, the gradient is steeper (something around 1:40, but probably a bit more in places). Combined with leaves and some drizzle, hand sanding was needed to avoid slipping to a halt...
