Cheap Radio Contriol Gear

Post by Alan P » Sat Aug 22, 2015 1:44 pm

I recently needed some R/C gear for a project i'm starting and i was initially looking at purchasing a cheap R/C car from ebay.
I believe this route has been covered in another thread. However before taking the plunge i thought i'd have a quick look at
the website i use for LiPo batteries, HobbyKing. They happened to have something which would suit my needs and it was on
special offer. The transmitter/receiver combo below cost just £11.16 plus shipping. This is a 5 channel 2.4GHz dual mode set,
which even when not on special offer is only about £15.

The handset is quite small being approximately 6" x 5 1/2" x 1 3/4". I also needed a motor and speed controller and went for
their own brand 360W motor with 30A ESC. This combo cost £9.99 plus shipping. I think this is very good value and would
certainly go back to them again.

Wow, that is good value, Alan. So for £20 you're all equipped and ready to go!

Rik

PS - Just out of interest, is the ESC reversible? If not, you could always set up a simple servo operated reversing switch.

I've also bought a few of these, good value and spent more on the esc! Not knowing what I'm doing means they are also cheap experiments. I use Mr Riks diagram so when it goes wrong I curse him ;)

It's just like being at home. Since the cat died, I'm now the one who always gets the blame!  :(

Hi Ben, links below,

The motor/ESC combo has gone up in price slightly since I bought mine, this is probably due to exchange rates.

thanks alan, complete setup now comes in at 27 so still a bargain!

couple other questions if you don't mind, its is definitely reversible, and did you find a worm gear arrangement the fits the motor OK? I'm atm thinking i only need the esc anyway and no the motor

Thanks again :D

I haven't had a chance to see if it is definitely reversable but according to the specs on the website it is. For my project i don't need a gearbox for the motor.
Hobbyking sell a whole load of ESCs without motors, i just needed both hence the combo.
