Well not only did somebody bid on them, someone else sniped them with 13 seconds on the clock!

Re: eBay madness
Yes that is bonkers, If you wanted one they do crop up for about 2K, there's something quite clunky and wrong with Roundhouse's version but can't put my finger on what it is.

Re: eBay madness
Especially as a Roundhouse R/C Leek & Manifold loco which uses a similar chassis can be purchased second hand for under £2000!
Re: eBay madness
Looking at what the 'big' secondhand traders are selling VoR tanks for these days, I wouldn't say they were that far out with the price they are asking.
Thanks

Re: eBay madness
Secondhand traders are asking far too much as usual nowadays. Some are even asking 'pie in the sky' prices....Thats not to say some traders are on tight budgets and we all need to make a living. I have to survive now on my miserly state pension, so those high prices are not even worth looking at for me. If I had the skills and the tooling, I have worked on central lathe grinders, but that skill won't turn me boilers and such like. So scratch building a live steam is out of the question.
Sticking to Plasticard for battery operation scratch builds, but even that is getting silly money...

Re: eBay madness
Not sure who are the 'Big' secondhand traders,I can only think of one and that's Simon Whenmouth and I've always thought of his prices as very reasonable and I've had a coal fired loco from him and that was also reasonable.

Re: eBay madness
16mm scale pricing has gone bonkers over the last couple of years, it will be the death of the scale once all the wallet modellers pass on.
Re: eBay madness
I don't think we need worry about the scale as a whole - the economics of supply and demand will regulate things OK - but I guess some elements may temporarily be overpriced (if I've understood correctly we're talking about the upper half of the live steam loco spectrum here, terrain in which I doubt I will ever tread; I still expect to enjoy years of fulfilling 16-mill-ing).tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2020 9:18 pm 16mm scale pricing has gone bonkers over the last couple of years, it will be the death of the scale once all the wallet modellers pass on.
Re: eBay madness
It really doesn't matter what scale you are interested in...The sky high prices are out of reach for most. Those people on eBay who ask silly money are thieves, who get naive, gullible people who are just starting in garden railways to part with their money. And please don't say they shouldn't pay, it's human nature unfortunately. I have been stung by certain people before, never again...

Re: eBay madness
Please can you find me one for £2000 - it's a loco on my bucket list . I've watched 3 sell so far this year, all for over £3000. John Sutton has one on his website at the moment for £3395. Is a Roundhouse L&M really comparable with a VoR?cncmodeller wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 10:05 pm Yes that is bonkers, If you wanted one they do crop up for about 2K, there's something quite clunky and wrong with Roundhouse's version but can't put my finger on what it is.

Re: eBay madness
No way is it worth anything like £3000, Simon Whenmouth has one for sale at that price but it's been converted to coal firing, If you contact him he would probably be able to keep an eye out for you for a gas fired one. I think the other best place to get one is go to the shows, I saw one just over 2k at Peterborough last year and another one at Llanfair Garden railway show.
The Leek and manifold loco is comparable because all Roundhouse do is change the wheel arrangement and the bodies, the parts are all the same.
If it was me I'd get one and convert the chassis and make my own CNC machined body with accurate rivet detail and cab.

Re: eBay madness
I see Simon (ANG) has another VOR for sale for £3250 so that must be their worth now I guess. Interesting to see the price of Tony Sant Finescale Engineering locos too - I'd certainly like to own one if I can save enough pennies

Re: eBay madness
Roundhouse will probably do another run of this loco, when the 'Measured and Drawn' book comes out, they'd be silly not to.

Re: eBay madness
This maybe sometime, as RH have closed down during the current situation, I understand my Fowler was one of the last locos sent out before they all went home.cncmodeller wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 1:44 pm Roundhouse will probably do another run of this loco, when the 'Measured and Drawn' book comes out, they'd be silly not to.

Watch this go over 3k:

Amazing how people pay this kind of money with a crap description and no video.

Re: eBay madness
The Taliesin Mk2 is only £2150 for R/C, and although closed at present Roundhouse are taking orders.

Beautiful looking loco, though well out of my "not very deep pockets"...

This looks intriguing.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G-GAUGE-20-I ... 3089528020
From the last photo it looks like it's actually 5" gauge
But maybe the seller is trying to tell us something when he says .......
PLEASE STUDY ALL PICTURES AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCEPTION .
