I thought I'd post some "before and after" pics of my new garden railway. Here is a pic showing the "garden" at an early stage. This area consisted of about 6 inches of compacted rubble over clay, and had been used for car parking. It flooded on a regular basis, so I dug a trench and put in a land drain.

Here is the same area after the drainage had been finished, and the topsoil added.

And here is the brand new garden railway on its first day of operation, last Sunday. At present, just a simple loop of track. I have longer term plans to add a junction at the top end, by the green trellis fence (which is the highest point - the garden lies on a slope), and run a line down the right hand side on a viaduct, over the path on the right hand side, and then in a tunnel through the flowerbed. That will have to wait until summer, though ...

Yeah, well done, making plenty of progress, done a good job! Obviously a dab hand at gardening/landscaping! A closer pic of the Caledonia?

Ha thats cheating! I meant do you have a different shot of it where you can see it closer up, from track level?

Looks like you've made a great start there And I'm a little envious of that Caledonia - but then I do have a pretty good loco fleet of my own so I can't really complain!
