IP Engineering Railcar - Plodwynn

Post by Shifty » Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:20 pm

Hello all,

Just a quick first post really to show my part completed IP Engineering Railcar (Christened Plodwynn) and wagon. I intend to add a lot more detail to it soon, but wanted to get it running satisfactorily first. The first non-steam loco on the Woodlands Light Railway.

Has anyone had much experience of these little gems? The large nylon drive gears on mine have started chewing up and I'll need to start looking into replacements.

Cheers,

Shifty

Never had a problem with the gears and ive found they are amazingly powerful for there size. Mine managed two brandbright coaches up our bank. No sign of gear wear niether.

Welcome Shifty, looks really nice. You have greased up the gears with vaeline, haven't you? Because they will wear otherwise.

Oh um I just need to do something to my railcar. Back in a sec. Sound of shuffeling and muttering along the lines of Where and Vas something.

Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated.

I put some open-gear lubricant on the gears originally but still get the wearing problem. I'll get that off and try something like vaseline to see if that makes much difference.

I don't really like the look of the bare wood one as per IP, although the loco's themselves are cracking. Mine's painted in some green left over from painting my Land Rover! Nice to compare it to the one in that picture - the low running rail / step is a nice idea. The exhaust on Plodwynn is mounted on the back and not the roof as well. Wouldn't do for them all to be the same!

I'll take a better photo of this one when it's done and post on here. Keep watching!

I have one in British Racing green (I like yours in Landy green! - I love landys as well as this hobby!) called Daisy. I agree that they are amazingly powerful, it'll pull 3 mamod coaches with ease, but I've had no problems with the gears. BUT, I have on the IP Budget chassis, with the same gears. I just lubricate them loads now to stop it.

Looking good there MHLR - nice to see you've got a cracking little loco in the fleet! Snap on the IP wagon behind as well.

Hope Daisy brings you as good service as Plodwynn has for me!

Warning!!

Post by garratt100 » Thu Nov 29, 2007 7:13 pm

Be very careful lads - we set up the 16mm Garratt Owners & Operators Association some years ago 'over a pint' (like you do...) & it's gone absolutely mad!
We now have a massive layout (as many of you will know) & 14 shows booked for 2008!

Don't say i didn't warn you! In fact i often look back & laugh at how we used to say, 'no - we'll never have a layout...'

Hi All,

Firstly apologies for not posting much recently - but it's the old story, work takes over! However, now the daffs are out, it's time to get back on with the Woodlands Light Railway!

Here's a couple more pics of Plodwynn and slate wagon after a bit of a cosmetic overhaul. Apologies for the quality of the photos - I'll try and add some more higher definition ones soon.

I've since found this little loco [doesn't have 4 wheel drive by the way] will easily pull that fully laden slate truck, plus a good rake of tipper wagons - I've had 6 behind, going uphill, and it didn't miss a beat.

I'll take some of the steam loco's soon as well - promise!

Cheers,

Shifty
