The Chuffer does sound good doesn't it. It would be even better when running under load. This video was the first one on the track though and only the second boiler fill since completion of a single run on a rolling road so it needs more running in yet. The SCGP1 is a push fit onto the 1/8" exhaust so can be removed if required. It is easier to fit if you have a removable stack. This Mamod has an non-standard saddle and stack fitted to the standard smoke box so it made fitting of the chuffer relatively simple.I love the sound that the Summerland Chuffer makes. Does the SCGP1-25 chuffer just push fit onto the 1/8" exhaust pipe? Would be good to get one which could be transfered between my fleet of Mamods, MSS & IP Janes.
Is the Cab front a cut down Mamod SL or MSS one, or is it the cab that was sold as an upgrade for the IP Jane/PPS Janet (the whistle on the front is the same as the one IP Eng fitted to their IP Janes)?
Yes this is a commercial item with some modification to fit over the Goodall valve. I will have to look back over my records to see where it came from. When I find out I will let you know.Is the brass steam chest a commercial item and if so from whom?
That little water tap serves two purposes - to get water from the tanks of course but it also was to hide a paint defectLike the water tap on the side tank - where does that come from?

Not quite. Cylinders are standard geometry as are the port plate settings and openings. The frames are specially designed and made - the loco is actually longer than a standard Mamod and the smokebox and boiler sits higher than on the standard Mamod. This is for a number of reasons but primarily to create more clearance between the combustion chamber and the wheels.Technical question, it appears you had to "cut down" the main rods on the cylinders to make them shorter? And if so, did this change the geometry of the port plate port openings?
Thanks, I see now, from some of the photos, the rods looked shorter in others.Superbiker_uk:74833 wrote:Not quite. It's not quite that simple but close. You do have to cut the standard body work by removing the part of the side tank that forms the 'floor' inside the cab. These then have an extra hole drilled in them and are fitted further back and higher up on the special frames. The other matter than is to make a new connection from the now 'floating' side tanks, rigidly back to the frames. This is done using K&S 1/4 x 0.14 square brass tube. You cut it to make some small angle brackets and then fix to the square tube.So really, one could transplant their engine's upper half, strip the frames of the fittings, and then add them to the PJ 6-Star frames to achive the same [provided they also got the rods and 3rd axle] ?

I am using 1mm mild steel sheet for the frames and other body work parts. The only issue is bending it nicely so I have a simple 18" bench mounted metal bending brake for this purpose. What sheet metal do you use to make the cab back?
Interesting... The design is better than cutting down the Mamod one like I did. While it works, it is wiggly being held on by the buffer beam and mouting tangs alone.Superbiker_uk:74936 wrote: I am having some half cab backs made that fit the standard Mamod to go with the coal bunkers that I had made to my design. I am stocking up for Mamodifications 6,7,8 and 9

Welcome to the Forum Roy.Roy Wood wrote:Also I am developing new products and welcome further suggestions.

I would be in the market to purchase a few of these also. I have an original one on my IP Eng / Mamod Hybrid "LUCY" that I made up with some original IP parts - I was able to purchase the remaining stock that Brandbright had a couple of years back (thanks to RWM I now have a source for some moreIt is not on your current lists on-line but are/will you be doing the turned brass domes for the IP Jane/PPS Janet? These are also good replacements for those lost on old Mamod SL locos, or to improve the looks of the MSS loco (it has a smaller steam dome), and even an addition to the current Mamod William IIs & Mark 1 & 2 locos.
