Re Mamod SL1
The Water Top Up Valve which allows water to be pumped into the boiler a little at a time during running, is leaking.
The silicon band is torn.
Rather than buying a new valve at £8, can I obtain silicon tube to replace the torn section??
Any ideas

Indeed you can - I can't for the life of me remember who supplies it from "the trade" (maybe Forest Steam?), but a suitable alternative should be available "off the shelf"

Silicone Tube, ideally Inside Diameter 2mm and as thin walled as possible, max Outside Diameter 5mm, otherwise it will not enter the boiler insert.
Most radio control fuel silicone tubing is a bit thick walled, but if this posting has the correct sizes it should do -

Make sure you clean up the shaft prior to fitting the tubing (I use some brasso for this) and cut the tubing a little shorter in length than the shaft - gives a better water tight seal.

Alternatly you can use the pnuematic tube from lego technic sets. I've had a piece in one of my locos for years without any problems.
