The Pine Hill Railway (PHRy) - a Norwegian Garden Railway

Hello and welcome to The Pine Hill Garden Railway.

Last year I was starting to build my garden railway, and make different kind of rolling stock. I live in Norway, in the county of Østfold. It's south of Oslo and the climate is much like the British Isles.

Here in this topic I would like to share pictures, videos and thoughts about my garden railway. All comments are welcome.

As some of you have noticed I have already shared some pictures and questions about building a tunnel on the layout, a coalbunker on my livesteam Billy, and other thoughts. I think this topic should give a more general view of my garden railway.

I guess snow is a given in your neck of the woods. I like to look at it in pictures, not in person (even though I'm originally from Oh Canada). Looking forward to seeing more of your railroad.

My Garden Railway will have 3 bridges, and last weekend I put together a Girder Bridge made of thin aluminum-profiles and rivets.
Here are some pics.

The bridge is very similar to those made by MVL Bridges, but I would like to build one from scratch by myselves instead of buy it ready assembled.

The aluminum profiles will finally be primed with some etch-primer before the paintjob, so the bridge will withstand the humid climate all year around.

In the occasion of the Norwegian National Day to day, the RH Billy was decorated with flags in front of the smokebox.

Here are som pictures from the event.

Hello

Here are some pictures from this weekend meeting at my PHRy (Pine Hill Railway). The weather was unfortunately bad with heavy rain all day.
But real livesteam-enthusiasts can stand a lot of moisture - I think ... :?

A new livesteam-friend has build this nice Lady Anne and 2 Brandbright-coatches. The color is maybe very conspicuous but the rake looks very nice to me.

Here is RH Lady Anne with heavy load leading onto the PHRy's trestle.

The PHRy has 2 crossing-tracks. Here a RH Katie was not able to stop at the end of it track, and hit the brakevan of a incoming freight-train. The rain and steam does not make it easy to clear the track.

Some of the enthusiasts have seeked shelter for the bad weather. But the mood is still positive.

Here is an example of correct gear and clothing when operating livesteam under demanding weatherconditions.

The 'conspicuous colour scheme' made me think of the County Donegal Railway with its Gerenium Red and Cream coaches and Gerenium Red and Black locomotives. Glad to know that rain did not stop play!

Do you now of any constructions like that, that really have existed here in scandinavia?

Railways in Norway was in the early eras often build as narrow gauge and with wooden trestles where bridges was needed.
This to achieve low building-costs. Narrow gauge needed less area for the track and wood was a lowcost-building-material, particularly in Norway.

WINTER IN MY GARDEN

The winter and snow is here, and my RH Billy had to go for a ride on the PHRy (Pine Hill Railway) today.

I absolutely love the pictures. Thank you, they cheered me up no end, as I had just had to abandon any thought of pushing on further with my track relay today as I am under snow myself. Hopefully it will clear here by Monday.
