Old Kiln Light Railway

Post by MTA » Thu Mar 27, 2008 6:53 pm

This short railway is located within the Rural Life Centre, Tilford, Surrey.

I went there last Saturday for a Toy Steam Event, and since last year they have opened their extension although the trains still run in 'push-pull' mode as the run round loop at the new station (named Mill House) has not yet been completed.

Captured between the trees, pity about the fence

The Orenstein & Koppel 0-6-0WT No.9998/1922 was in use on the day. Here, she is at rest at the mid way station, where passengers join the train and depart.

This picture demonstrates how short the wheelbase is!

Unlike last year, Elouise was fired on coal rather than wood. You can tell by the smell (I think I know too much for my own good!!!)

One of the former Lydd Ranges Hunslet engines. Why the Old Kiln railway need them all is beyond me

Wouldn't this be a nice scene to use on a model railway ;)

Elouise charges up the hill through the deep cutting.

The other Lydd Hunslet's.

Wow! That line looks great! How come I've never heard of it before?
