Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway gala

Post by laalratty » Sun Mar 02, 2008 9:07 pm

Just trying to plug the rattys first gala since 2001. It takes place over the may day weekend 2-4th of May, but might include the 5th as well. Visiting engines confirmed so far are Wroxam Broad from the Bure Valley railway, Hurricane from Romney and Sian from the Windmill farm railway, with the possibility of some other smaller engines. There should be an intensive service, with double heading as well. Should be a great event

Ooh, it certainly sounds good! But frustratingly just a bit too far away for me...why are so many of the best railways up North?

Well, the south have some good railways. There's the Bluebell, the Mid-Hants, the kent and east sussex, the L&B, and others.
Garden Railways-best hobby in the world.

The problem with the May Bank holiday weekend is it is the traditional start of the good weather holiday season, and so of course everything happens that weekend and it is difficult to get any accomodation.

I'm currently looking at going on the PS Waverley up the West Coast of Scotland with my father over that weekend, but hotels are very scarce at present. So I'll keep this gala in mind as an alternative.

Thanks for advising us of it.

I know who I'd support as well. Sadly I'll be at Uni so that's me out. Shame 'cause I don't think that I've actually seen Sian in the flesh so to speak. Isn't Wroxham Broad the one who plays Thomas or is that a different Bure Valley loco?

Nah...if I had a TARDIS I'd much rather use it to go back in time, to the great days of steam... 8)

I'd use it to go and meet Agatha Christie and then seeing how many famous Loco's I could get a ride behind.

I can now also reveal another visiter to the Rattys' gala. This is the ex Fairbourne Basset Lowke class 30 Count Louis, after a long and protracted overvhaul its comming meaning that the 2 surviving class 30's Synolda and Count louis should be running together (I think this might have happened in 1981 but if not it may be the first time they have steamed together)

Yep, did indeed happen in 1981 - pcitures at http://fairbourne.fotopic.net/c652527.html

However, it will be the first time that two class 30s have steamed together in original condition, so it should be something special :) I'm really quite annoyed I can't go to this gala now - I'll just have to hope they come together at Romney again at some point...
