Just finished the loco kit I got for xmas...

Was a IP dotti but I moved the exhaust to the top and the air filter to the side but prior to the pic it fell off

It is my first attempt at weathering anything and I dont like what ive done so Ill repaint it and try again I think. As for its name.. the colour I used was JCB yellow

And I also done a penryn officals coach too..

nice one Will! Yes, it's out of focus and that, but try a bit of light on it, that helps

I'd paint the rivets yellow, as they wouldn't be left black. You could also try some orangy rusty paint and just very lightly make rust runs down from the rivets and stuff

I'd agree with Pete about the rivets and the rust streaks.

Also, a "top tip" I use (from 00 modelling days) is to work from a photo if possible. It doesn't have to be the same loco/wagon etc, just something similar but in just about the same level of neglect that you're wanting to model.
You can see then just where the muck accumulates, paint fades, rust builds up etc and copy that rather than "make it up"

Mix dry bushing with thin washes for different effects and just keep at it. Like PCLR says - practice makes perfect!

PS. Looking forward to a finished shot of the coach!

Just to let you know ive painted the rivets back to yellow and IMA they look loads better. Ive tidied up the electrickery bits. Got some iron filings so plan to add some REAL rust! Have also had thoughts about using coffee stiriers to go across the seat? thoughts?

How fine are the iron fillings? Really you only want them as fine as dust.

Correct and you want some vinegar, water mix to mixem with and brush em on with.
Coffee stirrers out to make an OK seat.
They are OK for nearly everything. I made a 16mm scale sledge out of coffee stirers the other day...

the filings are stuff I pulled out the bottom of dads bench grinder and seem to be quite fine.. I can but try
