Do you think the new L&B will ever get from Lytnton to Barstaple again?

L&B signal box

Post by ptlrcecil » Sat Jan 26, 2008 3:01 pm

hello all.
Im currently building a T&M signal box kit and was wondering what is the correct livery for it in the days of the original livery. Ive found pics of southern boxes in couler but not one of the L&B boxes. Can anyone help?

As you probably well know the L&B was owned by the SR during the Maunsell era, hence the engines liveries. So, at a guess, I would say the signalboxes on the L&B were the same colour as those on the standard gauge Southern...

The book does have one black and white piccie, and the colour on the lower half of the box appears close to the colour of the coaches next to it in the picture. The coaches were a "reddish brown" (book is a bit vague really!). The upper part of the building appears to be off white or cream. Try looking on the present day L and B website, I think the present coaches are supposed to be in the old company colours

I wondered if they were in the carrage livery but I wasent to sure. The only photo I found was a black and whitey of the last train from barstaple and the box is in the back ground.
