Bachmann Lyn cab removal

Post by Garratt15a » Thu May 02, 2024 1:26 am

Hi Guys,
Just wondering how easy it is to get the cab off Lyn ? Has anyone done it without breaking anything ?
I need to repaint the (red) cab roof/windows and remove the doors.
TIA.
Andy

Hi Andy
I have done it and normally I'd take step by step photos for my blog, but it looks like I didn't for the Lyn. I don't remember it being particularly difficult or frightening, but I do remember there were quite a few fiddly bits (pipework etc) which needed to be taken into consideration. If I recall correctly, the parts are fairly robust, though.

Here's Bachmann's exploded diagram of the body. It might help.

Mine was the early version with the plastic motor block. I'm not sure if they changed the body on the newer version or kept it the same.

I have a feeling I had to take the whole body off before the cab could be split from the boiler - but it was a while ago.

Hi Andy
I got this from a fellow garden railer ....
The cab is held on with four plastic clips, which need pushing inwards; the cab then lifts off. The cab can be removed without taking the boiler off the motor block.

Hello again,
Thanks for all your replies. I actually managed to remove the doors, sliding windows and respray the roof without having to remove the body or cab.
It's a second hand loco I have just bought, and has been converted to battery power (contained in a 'box-car' wagon). I am in the process of de-Americanising it, to fall in line with my Roundhouse live steam sugar cane Fowler. So, it's lost it's boiler feed pump and bell as well.
Once again, thanks for your inputs.
Andy

Glad you managed to get it sorted. Would love to see some photos when you've finished Anglicising it.

Hi Rik, actually, it will be more Australian/American sugar cane sort of.
By the way, behind the smoke box door are two switches. One for the smoke unit and another 3 way switch. In the middle position it wont run, but what is the difference in the other two positions ? Only asking as it didn't come with a manual.
Cheers. Andy

I think it's to switch between DC and DCC operation. But don't quote me on that.
