Hello!

As I mentioned in my Railway thread, today's run with my Regner Konrad was cut short when the flywheel worked loose - the grub screw that holds it in place had gone missing.

It should be an easy fix, but I don't know how to identify what I need to buy to replace it. Can anybody advise on what size/thread etc I need please?

That sort of thing is always a pain.......

First thing to check. Has the grub screw gone missing, or has it just loosened off and is still in the bottom of the hole. You may be lucky and just need to tighten it again.

Being a Regner model, it will be metric, likely an M3. The grub screw in the flywheel is likely to be the same as the ones used to adjust the wheels, which is M3 x 3 in the Regner Lumber Jack model. See if one of the screws from a driving wheel fits the flywheel. If so, then thats what you need to find.

A M3 x 3 hex socket grub screw is a common size, so should be easy to find a supplier. M3 is the thread size, so a M3 x 3 screw is a M3 screw that is 3mm long. It will need a 1.5mm hex key if it is an M3 grub screw.

If you aren't confident about measuring threads, it would probably be quicker to talk to Graham at Garden Railways Limited, who is the UK agent and get a couple of spares sent out, or as a last resort send an email to Regner.

Good advice, thank you!

I'll start with the wheels as you suggest (I'd forgotten about the grub screws on those), then contact Graham - I think it was him I bought the loco from c15 years ago, when his company was possibly called something else.

While I'm testing I'll see if they fit my Russell's Slomo, one of which has also gone AWOL - looks like I need to include grub screw tightening in my maintenance schedule...

It is an M3 x 3 grub screw you require.

I endorse the recommendation to use Garden Railways Limited. I've had excellent service from Graham & Janet in supplying parts to keep my Regner loco roster running.
