Made a start on the boiler house for the sawmill. 5mm thick PVC foamboard. Rik

Going to look impressive Rik.

Yep. Smaller than the water mill, so not as daunting. Means I can tailor the brickwork to the situation, such as over the windows and doorway. Going to try English Bond on the water tower.

Impressive Rik, I do find brickwork satisfying when it's done just daunting at the outset!

Just been looking at your last photo Rik, that is some scribing on the walls. How the heck do you get the bricks to look so real, I mean they look so true to life….Brilliant.

That's the beauty of foamboard, it's easy to scribe or impress. I just mark them out and then while away a couple of hours listening to something interesting on Radio 4 or R4 Extra.

That would be my fear about using the material and of handling it frequently. Have you experienced any problems with the watermill in that respect?

Not so far, Peter. It does require a certain amount of effort to make a dent in the foamboard and so, unless the building is dropped from a fair height on to something sharp-edged, I don't think it will suffer from normal handling. I think the PVC coating is a bit more robust than the card faced alternative.

Now returned from our hols a la France where I cut out and embossed the components (you mean you don't take a modelling project with you on holiday??! ) and so have now had a chance to put all the bits and pieces together.

Here's the boiler house - ready for a paint job......
And then I must put together the water tower.

I am seriously impressed with your work Rik, the detailing is top notch and no doubt the finished item will be superb.

At least as good as I was expecting and probably better! Looking foward to the next installment.

If I tried to do something like that whilst on holiday, I would now be speaking in a very high voice and probably divorced.

My missus loves just lounging by the pool and reading, so I sit in the shade and do something a bit more productive. I'm too fidgety - always have been.

Incredible Rik, it looks like its been CNC and is a commerical kit. You could easily do building commissions!
