Hi everyone- just a quick update - now renting a house in Yorkshire- no garden but after going to the 16mm Yorkshire Show I have rediscovered my mojo - so I have a few kits to wok on and i’ve Unpacked my track and i’m In the process of laying out a loop and sidings in the loft space - no live steam but I can run my electric mice!

That's looking very good - could that wall on the right be a quarry face?! Like the slate wagons too - Lineside Hut?

My dad had a layout in the loft when I was young, with old doors as baseboards, resting on tea chests, all pretty rickety I think. We didn't use it very often, but I still remember the excitement of turning off the lights so that we could see the working headlamps on his Trix Flying Scotsman...

Glad to hear from you Mark!

You can have fun with Battery power but if you can open a window I would have the odd quick run with a steamer especially if you can get a dehumidifier to collect the moisture.

Hi Andrew - the wagons are Phil Sharples kits - work well and not a bad price - yes would be great to send it snaking through the tea chests - today’s modern cardboard boxes aren’t the same!

Well the good weather tempted me outside into our yard - it’s a rented house so no perm garden railway but 20 feet is down on a very temp p-way - the inspector when he arrives here will have a field day!

The true garden railwayman always finds a way, very impressive!

Topical beer choice too! For some reason they seem to be finding it hard to shift at our local Asda...

Hi – ok, as promised, here’s an update on early developments of CHLR v2 – now that we have eventually moved to a new house in Yorkshire

I’ve been given permission to have running rights to a loop around the garden with a main station area and a couple of industries and sidings at points around the loop (and maybe the odd halt as well ) – see pic below
In the first two weeks I managed to lay track down the left-hand side of the garden using some ‘lookie likey’ railway sleepers the previous owner had installed as the ground work – eventually I may move this section into the flower bed but it’s got me up running and is a bit tramway style so I may stick with it. I also cretaed a fully ballasted shorrt section in the bottom left hand corner to show the authorities how the line will merge into the garden

I then created a cutting around a large bush in the top left and corner of the pick using large stone I discovered in the front garden- all great Yorkshire grit stone. I'll get some photos of this mid construction as the line gets built into it.

This is where I'd got to when this pic was taken so I’ve added red lines to show where phase 1 of the loop will go around the garden (including a station area at the top of the pic and sidings for industries part way round – this phase will keep me busy in the coming weeks and I’ll try and keep you updated on progress of each area ( I have already been busy) - all these elements will recycle parts of the original CHLR so we can all have fun spotting our favourite bits - I've had great fun unpacking loads of cardboard boxes with all my goodies in

The orange limes represent phase two of another passing loop and a MPD on the top RH corner involving tunnelling through a bush - but thats for a few months time when Mrs H goes on hols

Anyway – catch up soon – we have already been running trains and if I can work out how to get a short video off whatsapp onto the forum, I should be able to show you Spitfire in action soon

Looking good so far. It will be a really nice line when you get lay all of the planed track. Looking forward to further updates in the near future.
