Pretty much Mitch, I made square nuts for mine simply because the photos I was copying from showed them.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Ran a goods train today with the Fowler, general goods for Nayook, a cattle truck to pick up the first of the winter fattened stock plus a couple of bogie flats for return to Leawarra.
Waiting for the off in Leawarra yard. Dappled shade across the bridge. Round the curve into Nayook. Grant.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Arrival at Nayook, now for the shunting to be done.
With the train made up, stock can be loaded.
There's a rather fiesty young bull in amongst that lot so the boys are ready to head for the escape gap.
The Fowler appears to be a very steady engine, and with the larger boiler and gas tank is a pleasure to have sitting around with a wisp of steam at the safety knowing I can add water when needed.
Grant.
PS and it's still cool enough to see the steam from the cylinder cocks.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
My heart always leaps when I see there's been a post from the Leawarra Nayook Railway. All are interesting but the ones like this one absolutely make my day.
Seeing a railway being just that - a railway - always brings me pleasure but seeing it done in such a convincing setting is a genuine treat.
Thanks Grant. I hope they managed to cope with that bull!

Totally agree, Andrew. Quite apart from the perfect setting and framing of each shot, Grant somehow manages to time his sessions to make the best possible use of the light.Soar Valley Light wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 8:07 pm My heart always leaps when I see there's been a post from the Leawarra Nayook Railway. Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
That Fowler really looks the part. Too often the ones I see at other railways are in pristine condition and whilst still lovely locos, they seem almost toy like.

Many thanks Phil.
I like to have engines that look like working ones, this is my cleanest engine so far.

Start of a New Timber Season.
Equipment being moved out into the forest to start cutting trees for another season. Bit of a tidy up around the mill. All looks a bit bare, but the yard will soon fill up and the milling can start. There's even a log from last season on the carriage still. Guess they shut down in a bit of a hurry when the rain started

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
High sun equals high contrast, but here goes anyway!
The midday mixed pass arrives at Nayook. Passengers will be very glad of that shade. They will soon feel the heat crossing the road to the store. I really miss those shade trees that we lost last winter. Roll on Autumn.

Very evocative, Grant. That last photo certainly gives the impression of simmering heat.
