Thanks Jim.... the fence is made from galvanised fencing wire which comes on a large roll. It is about 3mm diam. but flexible enough to bend into a sort of straight, each just over 3.5 inches long. It is meant to look wonky!
The bottom of the wire is set into holes in the 6mm ply base and the tops into hardwood strips. Posts are also hardwood with wooden beads on top.
None of my structures are intended to live outdoors, although I have just acquired some of the concrete board, as discussed elsewhere on this Forum, and I will use this for my castle walls in the hope it survives the wet conditions here.

This is made in the same way with identical materials as the first. I still have details to put into the garden but can wait until inspiration strikes!

Just to keep the thread up to date, today has been spent making storage boxes for some of the stock items I have built throughout the past year. It is just amazing how many there are when it all happens at once!

There are 13 here (so far) and they all need painting, lining with felt to prevent damage in transit, hinges, catches and finally lettering to help me identify what is inside each one.

Strewth Peter, that is some output!
Ive watched them throught the year with admiration, but only seeing them all together does it really sink in.
Well done and congrats.
Will next year be as prolific?

Great work, Peter - inspirational! I really like that vertical boilered loco btw (actually, really like everything else as well). Have you detailed the construction of that anywhere?

Well, it's been a month since I added to my thread..... far too long!
I have been working on my railway.... honest!
Not much to show on the railway itself but more buildings to add to my Emett style village scene when the summer comes. None of these are designed to withstand the weather, they don't need to as I will change them around when I use more conventional buildings for normal (?) stock.
The plan is to put down a flat slab of black coloured concrete which will represent roadways between my buildings just placed on top. There is no need to mark out roads as buildings can then be moved about or altered as I wish. The whole village scene will be in the centre of the balloon loop, a fairly large area, with planting alongside the track to soften the edges.
This latest building is not quite finished but is coming together nicely. It is taken from one of Emett's cartoons.....

It represents a tea room so has a sign above the front window and ornaments inside. Around the building are 'slate' slabs made from Plasticard and individually painted. The rear of the building has a small yard area (not shown in the cartoon) so I have added cobbles and junk, weeds (again) are growing against the wall which is made from chipboard covered in a layer of Plaster of Paris with bricks scribed and painted.

When I was making the roof (coloured paper cut to size and individually stuck to card) a bird flew into my shed and did a woopsi
on it..... I couldn't resist the opportunity to leave it there with a model bird sitting strategically placed above it!

Don't know if Emmett ever did one in any of his drawings, but an Emmett take on a water mill or maybe a coal mine would be a sight to see!

Steamyjim, there is an Emett cartoon showing a watermill which is certainly a possibility for the future, although I doubt real water would be suitable!

My next Emett building will be from the same cartoon as the one above....

Shaped like a toll-house it has been turned into a tourist ice-cream shop. The structure is made in the same way, foam card, PVA and brown tape. Each house is complete with its own baseboard, any paving, fencing, garden or yard is attached.
Baseboards are 4mm plywood suitably shaped to surround its building; not the same sizes or shapes so that a random village layout can develop on site.

The edges have been painted dark brown to blend into the road landscape when on site. Pencil lines around the building show where the cobbles are to be placed. This building has cobbles as paving instead of slabs. The cobbles are individually placed split peas on a bed of PVA. Those with little patience should switch off now! There are hundreds of the little b****rs and have to be carefully lined up so no large gaps appear. What you see here kept me occupied throughout most of Saturday evening's TV 'entertainment' so it can't be all bad news!

Prehm-Miniaturen.com in Germany sell a "stop me and buy one" tricycle with icecream freezer at the front, which I have been coveting to rebuild in a slightly more quirky design for the K&NWLR.
