I've now finished widening the raised bed at Bulkeley reduce the precariousness of the siding at the front of the bed.

Whilst out walking the dogs, I couldn't help thinking about your current progress in railway construction.... here in West Wales we are in gentle breezes and light rain (I don't like to exaggerate!) courtesy of 'Dennis', whilst I picture you outside in shorts and sandals, with transmitter in one hand and sipping chilled beer from the other.
From the picture posted above it looks as though I was correct?

Ah! Not quite. You might notice the frost on the ground in a couple of pictures of the raised bed under construction - and Dennis is rearing his head as I write this....

I really do think you explain how to do a proper job on building retaining walls Rik. It's the same principle I would imagine to build any wall. Get the foundation right and you are half way there.

I try to remember what I needed to find out when I started building my railway and then share what I've learned in case others need similar info. My dad taught me how to mix concrete and lay bricks when I was a teenager and I always think of him when doing jobs like this. I can still hear his voice if I put too much water into the mix - "Don't let the liquor get away!"

Looks good Rik Lots of possibilities for a new scene to be built on the newly acquired land.
Next step a bit more brick work to blend the 2 walls on the right hand end together this will remove that angle area that will cause an issue with the grooming of the lawn, unfortunately a bit of land will have to be sacrificed to do this.
That would be the excuse I would use for another land grab disguised as an improvement.
