Speed Trials
Laalratty & I were doing some speed trials on LMSJools' railway this evening. LMSJools has a dynamometer wagon that he's calibrated to show the scale speeds. My Lady Anne, after a number of runs down the 'long straight', did the equivalent of 66.3mph whilst Laalrattys Millie only managed 63.0mph. I must say it was completely unprototypical but great fun

Yes the two men from the Ministry in the Dynamometer car both ended the evening in Brown Pants !!!!!!!!!!!
Oooooer mother !!!!!!!!!!!!
Science is good, you can have all sorts of wacky fun in it's name. Including finding out how strong the punch is by seeing how clean the pennies are after dropping them in.
My decidly unscale brain is now also latching on to the idea of a miniture railway world record breaking run in the style of Mallard.

'Oliver's no use at all, thinks he's very clever. Says that he can manage us, that's the best joke ever. When he orders us about, with the greatest folly. We just push him down the well. Pop goes old Olly!'
Excerpt from today's late edition of the Silverdale and Morecambe Bugle : 'This paper is proud to report that the locally owned Silverdale Light Railway is celebrating a record breaking run by their very own Chaney Class locomotive 'Tibby'. It was achieved on the 'long straight' of the Little Morecambe Steam Rly at 12 noon today. A momentous 82.6 mph was recorded by the LMS's dynometer car on the train's 2nd test run of the day. Driver and owner, SLRmidge, had this to say, ''We were pretty sure we could break the record. The weather was perfect, sunny & still and Tibby's in fine fettle considering her age. I would like to thank LMS Jools for giving us the opportunity to show what she could achieve''. Tibby and her owner will be making a celebrity tour around the locality in an open topped bicycle ending with a run on Laalrattys ANLR this evening. '

Well I was informed by Jools tonight that he is having another steamup tommorow, and that speed record attempts will be allowed! That record could be gone by tommorow. Come on Gwydion, you can do it.......*
*I reckon a 100mph tailwind should just about do it

"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Indeed this afternoon was a busy one on the LMS
The Lawn was like a wet sponge but the son shone and the coldness in the air produced many a fine show of steam as engines worked hard either attempting a high speed run or pulling the 10 wagon heavily loaded Quernmore Quartz Quarry train !
Ultimately Lukes, little Jamod "Sir Luke" took the crown for the LMS with a speed run of 91.5 scale mph thus wresting Victory from the SLR's "Tibby" which held the previous record at 83.6mph
Young Christopher tried extremely hard with two engines from the ANLR his Caradoc which attained 61.5mph and "Gwydion" which achieved 66.0 mph dead. This was marginally beaten by the SLR's Edrig class "Curlew" driven by Ian "Mad" Midgley with a recorded max of 66.3mph and a Big Smile on Ian's face !
Francis brought his new Silver Lady soon to be named "Francis" and this achieved a remarkable speed of 82.2mph
Meanwhile on the heavy freight Duty only two Loco's managed to pull the full train unassisted up Hest Bank embankment namely Geoff's Accucraft Superior "Lady Yvonne" and Francis's Silver Lady "Francis".
Top marks to Christophers Caradoc for an awesome sound as it ran at high speed along the LMS cob.
Many thanks to the permanent way men Neil and Peter who ensurd trackwork was up to scratch for the events of the day.
All in all an enjoyable afternoon, many thanks to all who attended, hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as the Staff of the LMS did.
WooHoo keep on steaming. ;) 8)
