Windy Ridge Railway 2013
Windy Ridge Railway 2013
The annual steamup on the Windy Ridge Railway was held today, the NWAG's only all 45mm gauge line (although this state of affairs is not expected to last for much longer, as another line is being to this gauge in a very interesting location As usual, Maurice booked the weather, the WRR is one line I've never visited in the rain and I've gone most years since 2008! The rolling stock construction program has continued in overdrive, with more vehicles from Brandbright joining the rakes from Andel and IP Engineering. New steam motive power has also arrived in the form of a Roundhouse Alco, but alas he could not be persuaded the steam it. There was plenty of other interest though
Simon (PTLRcecil) regauged Konigs Tun and it put in some good performances despite slowly gaining more steam leaks and loose parts as the day worse on
Crossing one of the trestle bridges which harks back to the days when the WRR was very much a G-scale American Railroad
I took Russell and Urien, both of which ended up double heading. Here Russell is seen with Stelfox, the resident Russell on a long mixed train
Russell and Stelfox on another of the bridges
Hartside from the Forest Fields Railway crosses the largest of the trestle bridges
Simon also bought Jenny, now in Penrhyn black pending a full rebuild and repaint. The connecting rod ends are getting beyond oval but the loco keeps going!
From the Fairfield Railway came Black Smoke
Hartside passes the steaming bay. The first of the two FFR steamups is in 2 weeks time
View from the cab of Konigs Tun on a double header with Urien, which was needed with a train length of 15 coaches!
Urien and Konigs Tun lead the long train
Finally, one of the rarer pieces of PTLR motive power, Primrose on a short freight
Many thanks to WRR Maurice for an excellent steamup

"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."
