Insulating side tanks, followinga tip a from Superbiker_uk

Superbiker had mentioned in another thread (What can you do with a Mamod loco) using an insulative sheet sold in the UK by DJB.

Poking aroud on another steam fourm found a US supplier for a similar material- Fiberfrax. Further poking found a retailer for the material in the US- a hobbyist glass blowing supplier.

No slight against DJB's material, but with me being in the US, shipping can get high on a lot of things quickly out of the UK.

Anyhow, to Superbiker or any other person that has used this, do you do you use a high temp mastic or the like to bond it into place or just press-fit it in the side tanks.

Only just spotted this thread. I use double sided carpet tape and this works very well - very stong stuff and very sticky!

No worries, you replied to me over at the Mamod forum.

Anyhow, US carpet tape must be different than UK, so I ended up "nesting" the insulation in the tanks on Janmod, and it seems to be working out. Will try the same on Major Hitchcock.

I used the DJB insulation on Swordbreaker's inside tanks. I just glued them in and have had no problems. Did I do it right?

Time will tell. All I know is mine is not "as hot". The buffer beams however....

On mine there's the combichamber, the DJB cloth, the Mamod body and then the Briggs bodywork on top! I'd say "cool insulation huh?" but - metal conducts heat.

A friend has some asbestos transite panels....that might work...(cough-cough)
