Millerbeck Light Railway.

This 7 1/4" gauge miniature railway is set in beautiful Lakeland countryside near Newby bridge at the South end of Lake Windermere. I visited today on one of the relatively rare public open days, where three trains were running an intensive service around the circuitous line which takes around 12 minutes to negotiate per trip.

Nearby is Newby Bridge Halt on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway & as I arrived at the platform this rolled in to make a perfect ending to a great afternoon.......

Lovely pics there, I believe the blue loco is a Thomas 2.

"Thomas II" was originally a Roger Marsh design; he built the first loco, the eponymous Thomas II, in 1979 for the Beer Heights Light Railway. (See here: http://www.pecorama.info/beer-heights-l ... ing-stock/) However, like his "Tinkerbell" and "Romulus" designs, it has since been copied by many individual builders, often with detail variations.

Well I got to Millerbeck myself today, and found more engines in steam then Midge did

Goliath is held at a signal whilst Laura the resident quarry hunslet waits to roll forward and pick up some passengers

Another loco steamed today was this Denver and Rio Grande C19 "General Palmer", unusually for these locos in green livery (I've seen varients in red, blue and black)

Me and dad went behind the Thomas 2

On the newer section of the line

Side on of General Palmer whilst on the train

After leaving Millerbeck, we went on to our local model engineering club track at Cinderbarrow, 3 miles north of Carnforth

A small saddle tank "Cygnet" was on duty with another quarry hunslet.
Altogether a nice day riding behind little trains!

I remember reading an article about the green Decauville in the shed in the first pics, great little loco!
