'Oliver's no use at all, thinks he's very clever. Says that he can manage us, that's the best joke ever. When he orders us about, with the greatest folly. We just push him down the well. Pop goes old Olly!'
Yes, a great way to waste a ton of time.
For me, while there are some creative stuff made by folks with computers and handycams, there are a few old "gems" on YouTube that would probably never be seen again.
Case in point, this 1973 TV broadcast from Germany, the probably the first ever broadcast of what would later become the modern drum machine:

As you have all posted, YouTube can be very addictive.
spule4 - Garrett thanks for posting that URL. Kraftwerk, german for Power Station, have always been one of my favourite bands, in particular the Trans Europe Express song. So it is great to find their live version of this on YouTube. A very enjoyable 09:35 mins with some classic TEE video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMl__iHJbHg

Interesting, especially the film footage added. While from the current tour, reminds me of the 1981 tour stuff....probably some of the same samples.CCairns wrote:As you have all posted, YouTube can be very addictive.

Yes it is amazing what you can find on YouTube. As well as the original Kraftwerk Trans Europe Express which was in black & white, here's a variation on a theme showing the London to Brighton route on the 3rd rail electrics - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWxa9PUPrVg
Yes, the original was filmed on a promotional train ride to promote the new (1977) album. The original had some historical and model footage also.CCairns wrote:Yes it is amazing what you can find on YouTube. Here is another odity, a Pizzicato Five tune, but listen and you can make out KW's 1981 "Calculator/Dentaku".....(I have the orginal Kraftwerk 45rpm Japanese pressing, in dayglow yellow)

There are also rumblings of a "Box Set" of their 1974-2003 releases, but of more interest to me is the supposed re-release of the three earlier albums, Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk II and Ralf und Florian.

Sadly I missed them when they came to Glasgow on tour, although there is a rather poor video of them on that tour in Glasgow on YouTube.
Not heard about releasing the original albums on CD, but heard rumours of re-releasing the other albums in SACD or DTS standard like so many other groups are doing (The Moody Blues, Genesis, etc.). Hope to get the special boxed set (CD & DVD with laptop style box) of Minimum Maximum very shortly.
Some good information at the online encyclopedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraftwerk
