Forest Field Railway's New Double Spiral.

It was another glorious day on the Forest Field Railway (Mike always seems lucky weather wise) and we were all very keen to sample the delight of running up the virtually constant 1 in 60 double spiral line which will ultimately end in his railway shed. Thinking about it Mike it may have been easier to move the shed down to the railway.

Indeed it was a great day at the FFR, the extension has turned an ok railway into a pretty darn good one, and it will be brilliant once some of the loops are longer and the final terminus is put in. My pics will come later, and I've also got a video to come. With the layout as it is though, me and PTLRcecil had great fun top and tailing. I got a great on board of Lesley K the black Edrig storming the spiral with 6 on, but slowing to a crall at the top

My pics are now sorted, so here they are

Taliesin with my Ffestiniog train was first steamer out, and also the first steam loco up the extension. That was when we found out how hard it was to drive up with a big train...

Lesley K descends the spiral

Rhoda the Russel, also on the spiral

Duncan on the spiral (you may notice a pattern ermerging here...!)

Lesley K with the PTLR's brilliant new support coach which works with a loco in reverse in true GWR autotrain style. No bell as involved, the fireman on the loco is expected to slow down when he feels the extra resistance from the hand brake on the wagon applied by the driver. The PTLR is fully expecting this vehical to catch on...

Countess at rest

Me and PTLR cecil had great fun running this train top and tailed, going up and down the extension with little hassle or round the circuit. It actually worked very well as well

A shay from the Coniston Railway, this had no trouble with the hills

The top and tailed special, ready for running back up the hill

Lady of the Lake with the Vicar and Lord Faa Faar in attendance.

This dakota plane flew overhead towards the end of the afternoon

Excellent pics Laal! Good shot of the Dakota, I've seen that very one in a low fly-past at a 'doo' I was at in Yorkshire - much better than any modern day rubbish! I don't understand the need for the support coach thingy from the PTLR though

damn! I missed it. Was supposed to keep this one in my mind for the FR spiral thingy. ahhh well theres always next time. I'm currently half way through changing half of my stock and locos to choppers anyway!

Just need to work out what height they should all be at!

Group "standard" so to speek is 24mm to the centre line.

thanks, I was just going to look at the middle of the centre buffers on my roundhouse lady anne, but Ill use that. I bet they are the same anyway!

Some great pics guys of what looks like another memorable day at the Forrest Field Railway. The spiral looks very interesting, and i'd be interested to know how well manual locos handle the descent!?!

The PTLR's new wagon, started life as a replica of an Archangel wagon that was designed to run with the coal-fired Jack locomotive. I started the build, but upon my move to Scotland, I passed the job onto Cecil, who I would like to say, has made an absolutely spot on job (from what I can see in the pics) of completion!!!

The Lesley K appeared to handle the down slope very well actually (it was the only manual loco there I reckon apart from the shay that dosn't count so much!). I'm sure Cumberland would cope fine if you get down for the September one...
