The other problem with fitting lights is where to put batteries, with water in the tender and a gas tank, and all the extras in the cab and under the loco there isn't much room left.

Thanks Aaron, I steamed the loco for a quick run outside in the cold this morning and it looked like it was in the UK with the drains open and all this steam shrouding the loco. It was cold enough to require a little warm water in the tender to help the gas flow a bit better. A lot of fun.

With a watery sun and cool temperatures, I decided to give the new Fowler it's first revenue test. All the usual procedures (faffing about for the battery boys ) completed, signals off, drains open off we go. Very pleased with the effects, even to the point of being able to pull the drain lever half way out and get steam up the stack and from the simulated drains.
Pulling out of Warringine.

Definitely worth the extra work put into this loco.

The loco looks amazing Grant, well worth all the extra work you put in.
It looks perfectly at home in the wonderful landscape you have created there too.
With the little wisps of steam it gives such atmosphere.

The exhaust steam around the cylinders is a great touch. Has that been deliberately engineered as I can't imagine it would be the product of leaky pistons on one of your locos? I don't remember seeing similar on other live steamers.

The effect is just as effective as I imagined it might be! What a clever device.

That's a wonderful locomotive, and your eye for capturing detail in miniature is well represented in all the photos. Inspiring stuff

Well after three days of gales, the wind died and the sun came out. Time to boil some water and get more familiar with the new Fowler. With a slightly bigger gas tank a gauge glass, and being able to top up boiler water under steam, I could raise steam, and take my time to make up a train while the loco sat in the yard with the safety eased. Did the run to Nayook, topping up with water and running round, then back to Leawarra. Too much fun to take photos till the end.
About to head into the shed for the night.

I did notice the loco was a bit slippery pulling out of Warringine with six bogies on the 1:40 shall have to investigate further.
