Season’s Greetings from the FeckHallBahn
Season’s Greetings from the FeckHallBahn
Advent steam and diesel with Christmas music on the FeckHallBahn
https://youtu.be/FnzhDYZBCvo
Loco Roster
Gaspode with - unplanned - Baskerville and Jack Hackett.
Gaspode takes a freight from Hornundtrompetebahnhof to Kirschbaumimwaldbahnhof collecting and dropping off goods en route
On returning to Hornundtrompete she is scheduled to swap trains and leave with the last train of the day, a mixed freight/passenger service. Things do not go according to plan. She runs out of steam at the point of pushing the incoming stock back into the siding. First Baskerville and then Jack Hackett come to the rescue.
Finally, Baskerville takes charge of the Kirschbaumimwald only departure; which is where we say goodbye.
Train Weights
Four vehicle freight 3t+3t+4t+5t = 16t
Three vehicle mixed 5t+4t+5t= 14t
Music Roster
[All recorded in 2020]
Ding Dong Merrily on High and Joy to the World on a Paxman 23LD with Schmidt silver flare. My transcriptions (I think I arranged Joy to the World but can’t remember! The bonkers bass line suggests that it was me…).
Away in a Manger on a Webb-Halstead Bohemian horn (copy of a circa 1790 instrument). Two crooked in F, one in C basso and one in Bb basso. Arrangement by Matthew Horne
Von Himmel Hoch da komm Ich her. J S Bach, my transcription played on a 20th Jungwirth Vienna horn, identical to a late 19th century Uhlmann instrument.

Re: Season’s Greetings from the FeckHallBahn
I liked the song with the natural horns. Actually, I liked all of them. Jazz pianist and saxophonist myself, at least I like to think so.
Miles-- Trains are fun. With the exception of track power. Argh!
Re: Season’s Greetings from the FeckHallBahn
And a Merry Christmas to you, Nigel.
Good to see some live steam shunting.
Rik
PS Is that an abandoned horn I see in the background at 50s ?

Re: Season’s Greetings from the FeckHallBahn
It is! There are four dotted around the garden - all completely clapped out with vital parts missing. The one nearest the railway (at E Flat Corner) is actually a tenor cor - a short lived right handed instrument with a backwards facing bell that was intended to replace tenor horns in brass bands. They didn’t really catch on (having played one I can hear why!!).
I might do a photo album about the horns of the FeckHallBahn…
I love shunting; it’s particularly satisfying to do it with live steam.
