Yes, gilding cream can be used for picture frame restoration etc. It is available in different colours. I first got some when I played with wood turning where it can be used to accent grain etc.

That's a beautiful little coach. I suspect a similar looking one might appear on my railway soon.

I acquired a 'job lot' of these, I think some of the colours may be useful for weathering? - If applied sparingly..gilfachphil wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:58 pm Yes, gilding cream can be used for picture frame restoration etc. It is available in different colours. When I came to try to use them, they had dried-up considerably.
You wouldn't know what I could try as a solvent (to rejuvenate them) would you?

Phil,
have a look at the Liberon website. They say use turpentine or good quality white spirits,

Thanks Phil..
All I have to do now, is find them! - I think they have not moved here yet?

Very nicely finished. Like the figure - the specs are an excellent detail.

As suggested by Trevor earlier the balcony coach had a run behind Trefor the Tram at the Swansea Model Engineering Society track this afternoon.
A good day out was had by all. Many thanks to all the members there who made us so welcome,

Agreed Phil, it was a very good day to get together for the first time this year and meet such a friendly group of railway modellers. I recommend a visit to their steam running open days on Bank Holidays. See local news for details.gilfachphil wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 6:52 pm As suggested by Trevor earlier the balcony coach had a run behind Trefor the Tram at the Swansea Model Engineering Society track this afternoon.

The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
That's very nice indeed! beautifully finished too...
Ironically, I sold my only balcony carriage (a Faller E train conversion) a couple of years ago, but I'm feeling tempted. Could I get away with painting it dark green and adding "W H Rly" lettering to the sides??!

I wish..
Four hours travel, and only a week after SW's latest Chemo.. A little too far, unfortunately.
Have a good show!

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
Following visits to running days on local group members layouts, inspiration and friendly discussions/arm twisting, things are afoot to incorporate Yr Hen Felin and Yr Orsaf Newydd into a larger layout.
A plan was drawn up:-
timber was sourced locally and fence post spikes online, the next picture shows the state of things at close of play last Monday:-

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
By the end of Friday afternoon, the fence spikes having arrived at lunchtime:-
The spikes are 50mm square ones, though a little oversized, and the timber nominal 50mm square though actually about 45mm. I cut slices from spare pieces of the timber and rammed them into the gaps to hold the posts stable.

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
and a proof of concept test:-
it works and the station section is only slightly different in height to the new track bed so no great gradients involved in getting from one to the other.

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
A lot of progress has been made in the last few days:-
the framework to support the two scenic boards is mostly finished and the front table similarly though not all of the boards are screwed down yet.
High winds and frequent rain today have driven me indoors so some Cliff Barker track has been assembled. The following photo shows Peco track to the rear and Cliff's track in front:-

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
That's some good looking track - and proper point throw timbers! I might have to get some of those..
The timber finish looks quite nice too. Is it oil or varnish?
