Re: The G&DLR continues.
Not much to report at the moment save a massive amount of de-weeding had to take place and that I've managed to get the fence painted black in the short gap of decent weather.

Re: The G&DLR begins.
Again drips and drabs as work continues on the wagons. I've managed to add some slightly overcall solar lights. I bought them on a whim from BnM for Β£3 - I managed this weekend to get them painted up in BR (NE) colours. Admittedly I would much have preferred the traditional type you find on railways but beggars can't be choosers.
The next stage is to get the station buildings build up - both are getting there. Also to find some smaller metal signs to add.
In others news, we have a trainspotter who has set up home in the small washing up dish pond.

Adding lighting is a good move. It's been on my to-do list for ages. Good idea to use those solar lanterns.

I think they are brilliant, like Rik, it's a great idea to add some kind of lighting.
This is the trainspotter on our's.....
It's been on the line since we planted the Phlox last year. It does keep the spider and ant's population down....

Looks like yours is a fine scale version, Rod
I have a couple which pop up from time to time and they are massive by comparison. Mine are definitely coarse scale .....

Re: The G&DLR begins.
I'm hoping mine's going to remain fine scale for the moment but I reckon it's be able to take on an Old Bassett Lowke in time.
Apologies for the late reply - I've just come back from a lovely camping trip with a multitude of weathers. I've a few days off from work still so I'm hoping to crack on with getting some modelling work done.
Alas as per - you leave it for a few days and the pesky weeds have decided to set up home yet again.

Re: The G&DLR begins.
Some update on the restorative work of the station. I've mangled to get everything built, varnished and now the waiting room is looking more like a waiting room. The exterior is a bit shabby still but that will be one of the last things to do.
I'll need to add some bits and pieces to make it look lived in, maybe a lamp, an organiser, chair, telephone, book case etc etc for the m=station master and some posters for the passengers. I have to cut down the partition and the fireplace as I'm going to add a false ceiling to deflect the solar powered lights.
Overall I like the varnish finish is better than the previous painted finish which looked far more crude - it's not perfect, but better.

Looking good Sylvian. Interiors in my buildings are inferred rather than modelled!

Re: The G&DLR begins.
Mine are imagined (apart from one building - the coal merchant's office - but the window is so small you can't see anything inside anyway)

Re: The G&DLR begins.
I have to admit, apart from the signal box, none of my structures have interior fittings. With the roof permanently attached, the windows small and the distance from viewer is taken into consideration, I see little point.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: The G&DLR begins.
If you can't see any fine detail, I'm surprised you can see a little point?
Sorry, I'll get my coat!

Re: The G&DLR begins.
That's a fair little point
The main reason is that I'm planning to light them up and I'm not a fan of seeing buildings lit up that look like empty high street shops on a night.
It's a question I've been asking myself about the other building I'm working on, the station masters house. I was thinking of fitting a half decent interior but this was an effort in itself and we'll see if the results speak from themselves. But I also plan to add curtain netting so what went from aiming to add an upstairs bedroom turned into just adding a living room and now I might just add a chair and simple fireplace just to give a hint of life there eon a night and again that's why I'm doing it as in the summer I've enjoy watching the sun set and seeing the light come on and see something in the signal box.
But again, it's my model and I turning it into something more and on that note I've managed to build up the fittings whilst be allowed to play in my room this afternoon.
Again some of it might be seen - others might not but I'll also make the roof removable so I'm hosting on the line (if I ever do).

Re: The G&DLR begins.
I personally like to see stuff inside buildings. Our Fairy Wood garage has a bench in the workshop and desk and bookcase in the office. Both of which are lit by battery. Most of all Anne like to see buildings that are lit up, it goes well with the magic of the FWLR line...
I do like the furniture you have made, the phone is brilliant.

I'll second that - all the items you've made are great. Is that books for the shelf that I spy?FWLR wrote: βMon Aug 16, 2021 8:19 am I personally like to see stuff inside buildings.
