IP Engineering Rail Bus
Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
I have investigated an SSL Certificate, and the cheapest available to me is £45:00/year, an additional expense I am not willing to pay out for on a blog.
Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
Jimmy,
Enquire with your hosting provider..
Many provide a SSL certificate 'free' as part of their package.
Your Broadband provider may include a certain amount of hosting space? Again, they may provide a certificate.
You usually have to ask, rather than them making a 'thing' of the service.

Already discussed this a while ago with my hosting service, and £45:00 is the cheapest they do.

I'm no expert on SSL but a quick web search unearthed this source - c $40 for five years

It got a good review on TechRadar so I think it's legit

Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
For general public use I wouldn't buy certificates with expirations greater than 2 years.
A lot of services consider a cert more than 2 years old to be untrusted.

Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
On the site, they say with the multiyear subscription, the user needs to renew it every year presumably to overcome this issueBorisSpencer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 8:53 am For general public use I wouldn't buy certificates with expirations greater than 2 years.

Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
letsencrypt have been offering free certificates for several years now, I'm not sure if all hosting providers would support them though as I imagine selling SSL certificates is quite lucrative. There is a list of hosting companies that support lets encrypt on their community forum over here
Sorry to continue the thread hijacking with more SSL discussion
I believe since September 2020 certificates can only be issued with a maximum expiry of 13 months or less anyway, see here. For general public use I wouldn't buy certificates with expirations greater than 2 years.

Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
I do think this SLL Certificate thing has gone on long enough, I am not buying one, my web host does not provide them for free - End!!
Lets get back to the trains please.

So Jimmy,
What did you think to the quality of materials and fit of the IP Railbus?

Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
Instructions: Five pages of instruction, mainly via photographs, in the occasional place, the information could have been expanded for extra clarity, though a novice could build this model, I think some areas did introduce ambiguity into them.
Body: The ply though light was solid with well cut edges, all the parts (with the exception of the seats) were butt joints, and as advised here I used PVA and it seems to be a very solid build.
Engine cover: White metal, clean, a couple of very small "blow holes" only identified after primer, soldered together well, nice fit.
Axle mounts, luggage rack, "dashboard": 3D printed, clean and square, the axle bushes needed a little super-glue to hold in place.
Issues: There was no 45 mm gauge conversion kit, and IP Engineering weren't the easiest company to get hold of, but agreed to sent the items in the post, however they only post once a week, and I had just missed that weeks post, so from identifying the issue to receipt of parts was 10 days, however not being in a rush this was not an issue for me.
Overall I am quite please, currently at the painting and motorizing stages, the main build now finished.
Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
Progress has moved on with painting and details starting to be added, hopefully further details will be available on my blog latter this week:
Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
Love the blood and custard colour scheme, Jim. The roof rack looks very intimate. Was that part of the kit or your own addition.

Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
Rik, many thanks, the rook rack was a 3D printed item that came with the kit,
Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
Darned predictive text on this tablet - "intimate" is supposed to be "intricate" ..... But I do like the concept of your "rook" rack (which my predictive text just changed to "room" rack)

Re: IP Engineering Rail Bus
That looks very tidy. And it could run on my line in those colours What is the rationale behind the orange roof beacon - does it travel through an airport somewhere along your line?
Oops - no it couldn't - I'm 32mm
