[/url]The bright blue Bertie, "Victor" belonged to a friend's missus, who had rarely steamed it since buying it. However, she had brought it along and so it was rostered to run with the GWR rake...

[/url]Then this rare old 'Dacre' came out to play. It was reluctant to steam at first, but for some reason whenever I walked upto it, and wafted my hand, it would begin to start making a gallant effort...! Some motion was loosened and oiled, and a second shot was made, running the loco round. I was permitted to water and fire the loco up and run it round myself;; we got three laps off it running light with me!
Steve discovered that the burner wasn't working as well and that it wasn't turned up as much as needed -- but was producing a somewhat sooty yellow orange flame. Once he had established this, we got it going again and mananged to get six laps nonstop out of it

[/url]The Accucraft did indeed romp around unaided with eight weighty bogie coaches in tow.
The modifications to the exhaust, the crank replacements and renewals, and the new 'firebox' all came together to produce what has probably been the finest run of this gallant loco's current career sofar.
