Should be easy enough with a jig-saw and good hand eye co-ordination, I did about 20 in one go (for when I fit my coaches with removeable roofs) and it only took about an hour
Those coaches should look good when they are finished, I like the colour scheme look forward to seeing them running

"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

I remember having to build 4 of them beggers with removeable roofs. I hated every second of it and never touched a carrige kit again. Best of luck though and hope they turn out all right.

I don't understand why more manufacturers don't design their kits with removable roofs in mind. If I'd built my GRS Wisbech & Upwell coach as per the instructions I wouldn't be able to remove the bogies for maintainence - as I have needed to do on more than one occasion! But on the whole I am a very satisfied IP customer, and it looks like you've made a good job of those kits so far Andy, so don't give up!
I know what you mean - I had a Tal-y-lin open third four wheeler from Tenmille. Firstly it was a little tall so the sides got shortened, and putting plastic overlays for detail on a nice wooden coach did not seem quite right, so I bought some wood strip and used that for the detail instead. It also meant I could have doors on both sides too!ptlrcecil wrote:I remember having to build 4 of them beggers with removeable roofs. After that I realised that making a coach from scratch was only going to take marginally longer, so for the next coach that is what I did.
I think Andy is doing a marvelous job mind!
It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!
Rather than make the roof removable, I build mine so that the body drops on to the floor. That way you're mating two flat surfaces, not two curved surfaces.andysleigh wrote: I want to do the roof removeable, which means i have to find some way of making some curved cross bits.
if i was still at school, i could use the laser cutter,,,

For the floor, i'd leave it natural wood, although you can use brown paper vanished to represent lino if you want, or felt for carpet, or wood stain, however, I don't think you would find many painted floors in carriages
